CHICAGO, Dec. 1, 2013 – For the first time ever, clinicians have the flexibility to track X-ray skin dose exposure in real time during interventional procedures with Toshiba’s Dose Tracking System, an application soon to be available with Toshiba’s Infinix™-i Angiography systems for use in pediatric and adult cardiac and abdominal procedures (availability in Canada pending Health Canada license). The new technology is Toshiba’s latest advancement in optimizing dose management to improve patient safety.
Toshiba’s Dose Tracking System displays live and cumulative radiation exposure through an intuitive, color-coded indicator on a 3D visual representation of the patient. The display shows where the radiation is being administered on the patient’s body in real time. This alerts the clinician throughout a procedure to make quick and necessary changes to distribute the skin dose and minimize the potential risk of locally concentrated high exposure.
Toshiba partnered with the University of Buffalo to design the Dose Tracking System as an easy-to-understand visual aid that allows hospitals to suppress radiation exposure. In addition to the Dose Tracking System, other dose management tools like Spot Fluoroscopy offer a more complete picture and better manage radiation exposure, making procedures safer for patients and hospital staff. These dose reduction technologies, combined with the Infinix-i’s unmatched flexibility in system design, offer a perfect solution for today’s interventional procedures.
Toshiba showcased the Dose Tracking System, Spot Fluoroscopy and an enhanced processor for the Infinix-i at this year’s Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting in Chicago, Dec. 1–6, 2013 (Booth #7330, North Hall).
